Dates: Summer 2008 – 2009
Location: Ty Gwyn Woodland, Forge
Client group: Home educating families
Volunteers: Parents volunteered in all sessions. Outside volunteers came to several sessions to gain experience in Forest School.
In summer 2008, when Dyfi Woodlands was just starting to come together, we were approached by home educating families to run sessions specifically for home educated children. In partnership with Mentro Allan, a community project which exists to promote outdoor exercise, Dyfi Woodlands ran a series of six Forest School sessions and two conservation and networking days. The children in the group ranged from 6 months to 14 years, and there were overall around 20 children and 15 adults involved in the project.
As part of the project a survey was carried out to find out about home educating groups and approaches to the structure of Forest School sessions that meet their specific needs – see enclosed report.
The sessions were participant led and included sessions on mapping, knot work, raft building, tracking, tree identification, shelter building, green woodcraft and cooking over the fire. |
